About This Yoga School
The Sanskrit word yoga or Yog is derived from the root word Yuj,meaning Join Together.It is considered as the union of jeevathma (Individual Self) with the Paramatma(the universal self).It involves the practice of physical postures,which is referred to as asana in Sanskrit.As the name suggests,the ultimate aim of practicing yoga is to create a balance between the body and the mind which leads to self enlightment.In order to accomplish this goal,Yoga makes use of different Yoga postures,relaxation techniques and meditation.
The first systematic and coherent presentation of yoga was done by the sage patanjali.Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra propounds the Ashtanga Yoga or Yoga with 8 limbs.These 8 limbs are
